And this is for Sunday mornings and Mums...

18 March 2013

Ever since I was a little girl my favourite part of the weekend has always been Sunday morning.
Those few hours before the world wakes up is the best. Everything feels slow, everything feels quiet, everything feels precious.
As Ben is a pretty late sleeper, more often than not me and Goblin will get up nice and early and spend a little time together. We pad around sleepy eyed, taking our time adjusting to the world.
We stretch, we yawn, we relax.
After a few cups of tea and some girly tv, yesterday I got out the ironing board and went about tackling the mountain of crumpled clothes that has been sitting in our bedroom for months.
When I was little my mum used to do most of the ironing on a Sunday morning and waking up super early to hang out with her was my absolute favourite thing. Yesterday I really missed her and doing this ritual was my way of feeling close to her. Reliving those mornings in our pj's, chatting away, with lots of tea and biscuits.
So this is for you Mum, I miss you... xxx
(And so does Goblin....)

  2. I agree an early Sunday morning to yourself is bliss. I'm not sure I agree with you on the ironing part however, but I can see why it's special to you. xx
p.s. I'm not a cat person but Goblin looks so cute in that upside down pose!

  3. Ah, this is lovely. Funny how little things can keep that bond strong.

  4. Ironing!! I don't think I learned to iron until I was 23 and had to iron on the floor since I didn't even have an ironing board! We never ironed in my house, so I'm pretty sure I wore wrinkled clothes to school half the time!

  5. I do not like getting up early, but whenever I do manage (like this weekend and on my business trip) I enjoy it very much. Especially when either the sun is rising and I can enjoy the wonderful colors or when everything is under a blanket of early morning fog.
My mom used to iron in the evenings, in front of the TV. I do the same now and it always makes me think of her, too :)
That pic of Goblin is just too cute!

  6. I love love love Sunday mornings and I loved this post as well; made me smile and remember Sunday mornings as a kid. I'll start re-doing little things that I did back then, just for the feeling of them.
    Happy week dear :)

  9. Aw Goblin looks so cute! I wish I had the energy (or motivation) to do ironing or other household things (that really need doing!) on a Sunday morning but I like my sleep too much

  10. Aww this was a lovely read. I have a confession, I never iron - ever! My mama taught me ways to get around ironing and I'm forever grateful because I hate it so much, I even hate it more than washing up and I REALLY hate that! Domestic goddess I am not! ;)

  11. Sunday mornings are the best! Our cat wakes us up early so once I've fed him I head back to bed with cups of tea and we spend the morning chatting before Megan comes in to us. When she was you get she would get me up at some rediculous hour and we'd snuggle up on the sofa watching children's tv. I miss our snuggley time in the mornings but am glad now of the longer lie in!! It must be hard without your mum, but nice that you have lovely memories xx
