dreaming of dreamies.

31 August 2012

i love a ritual. the comforting familiarity of them can make my day sometimes. two of my favourite rituals include goblin.
one of them happens the second we walk through our front door.
he gets straight up on our laps for some snuggles.
that little boy will follow us around until one of us sits down and he can climb up and cuddle us. he loves it. he purrs like crazy, he goes all floppy and on one occasion even knocked my phone out of hand ON PURPOSE because i wasn't giving him my full attention.
and ben calls me high maintenance!!
sometimes he gets so carried away with the cuddles that he falls off my lap. this happened about fifteen seconds after this picture was taken. i was laughing too hard to capture it sorry!!

the second ritual that i love is the one i like to call 'dreaming of dreamies'.
i have never met a cat who does not like dreamies. (i swear they are the heroin of the cat world!!)
the ritual goes like this...

after said cuddles he will happily trot off to the lounge.
once there he goes straight for his beloved dreamies that are kept under the coffee table. he will drag them out of their little home and leave them on the floor by our feet, quite dramatically for such a little cat.
and then he stares at you. waiting. not so patiently.{picture one}.
you give him a few as a 'little treat'. he goes mental trying to catch them.
you then put them back under the table.
confusion occurs. 'why have you done that?? but i want more dreamies!!!!' he says. not. {picture two}
((i do kinda wish goblin could speak to us - although i bet he would have said the above with a few more expletives thrown in!))
back to the point...
he drags. he stares. he replaces them back on the floor.
and oh that stare. it haunts me! {picture three}.
you give in. again. you throw a few more around the room. why? because he is just THAT cute.
he goes mental trying to catch them. again.
you then put them back under the table.
he drags. he stares. he replaces them back on the floor. he does a little more staring.
are you actually being serious goblin??? greedie sod.
no, i will be strong. he just won't eat his dinner if we give him anymore.
{picture four} he knows this game is over. that they will just stay there until the next day.
we have won. there will be no more treats for little greedy goblins.

so those are my favourite little rituals.
i am finding more and more recently that it is the little things that happen every day that put a smile on my face.
happy friday.

p.s  makes me wonder what on earth they put in dreamies?!!
actually scrap that. i really don't want to know..

my august beauty favourites...

30 August 2012

remember this post??
the one where i mentioned that my clarins stockpile is beginning to dwindle? well that still stands. booo....
because of this, and the fact i have not become a millionaire in the last week (booo again), i have kept my eyes peeled for some cheaper options to replenish my bathroom cabinet.
and these are my newest favourites...
don't you just love the background in these pics? thankyou sofa for kindly lending yourself to me for this post.

1. Rimmel -  Lycra Pro - Pink Amazon - £4.59  (here)
i know, i know, i have spoken about these rimmel nail polishes before BUT that is because i really do think they are wayyyy better than all the 'high end' makes out there. trust me i have tried pretty much all of them; essie, opi, orly, dior, chanel, lancome, nails inc all included....
what can i say? i am a self confessed nail polish addict. and trust me, these are the best and this color is the cutest for the last few days of summer.

2. Superdrug - Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream - £2.99 (here)
i noticed a few reviews pop up recently about Superdrugs own skincare and in particular their "vitamin e" range. when i was having a wonder through superdrug on monday i noticed there was an offer on on their products...2 for £3.99!!!!! WHAAAAA????
there was only one thing for me to do. stock up.
i chose the nourishing night cream first. i was sold instantly by the smell alone. it's all comforting, yummy and reminds me of that lovely holiday smell you find sometimes. you know that fruity, coconuty, oaty, yummy smell?
(okay i don't actually know how to describe it so you should go check it out yourselves - clearly beauty blogging is not my forte!)
back to what i actually do know. this cream sinks in amazingly (who wants a face that sticks to your pillow? not me!!). i usually find that a lot of creams that claim to be 'nourishing' are far too sticky on the skin and can feel really heavy, but this one isn't like that at all.
i have been using it for about 4 days now and i have really taken to it - no spots, no sticky feeling, a yummy smell and super soft skin in the morning.

3. Lush - Lip Scrub - Mint Julips - £5.25 (here)
i used to order the clarins extra-firming lip scrub in my allocation cause i used to really like the taste of it. the problem with getting it still is the price. for 20ml of product it is £19!!!! you heard, 20ml for £19!!!! now i don't know about your opinions, but for me that is ridiculous. when the little tube finished i went on the lookout for a new lip scrub (fyi lip scrubs are important). i stumbled across this one at the Lush store on Kings Road and was totally blown away by its yummyness. it smells amazing, tastes amazing and really moisturises your lips. due to the fact that i have to wear lipstick everyday for work - lame - it realy helps to maintain a nice non-flakey base to work with. oh and did i mention it tastes gorgeous???? at £5.25 it really is a total steal, i have had mine now since june and it is still going strong!

4. Superdrug - Vitamin E - Hot cloth cleanser - £5.99 (here)
back to the superdrug vitamin e range again...this was the second product that i got on the 2 for £3.99 offer. (do the math - total bargain).
i have used a few hot cloth cleansers in my time; liz earle and eve lom being the main ones and i did quite like them but i always seemed to go back to my clarins cleansers (for a review on those go here). so i thought no harm in trying another right??
well this one really impressed me. after i taken my eye make up off i smear this on to my dry face, massage it in and then wipe off with the damp muslin cloth that is provided. simple as that.
i didn't expect my skin to feel so clean and so moisturised after using it. and no spots so far! the smell is just like the night cream and has a really creamy consistency.
oh and another thing...you get 200ml of product in a tube! winner!!!

5. Superdrug - Vitamin E - Exfoliating facial scrub - £2.99 (here)
i love a face scrub and can be quite particular with them; i like my skin to feel scrubbed but not raw, clean but not stripped.. it is a delicate balance and one that has left many an exfoliater unused in the bathroom cabinet.
i have had this product for about two weeks now and so used it about 4 times, it has a consistency a little like porridge, wierd at first, then i read that it contains rolled oats to exfoliate the skin, all makes sense now! i was a little dubious looking at it on my hands however when i actually smeared it on my face i had one of those 'aaaah, oooh, wow, how nice' moments. it really does do the job well! my skin felt fresh, clean and not dried out afterwards. even ben likes it...and that is saying something!

6. John Frieda - go blonder lightening shampoo - £5.89 (here)
7. John Frieda - go blonder lightening - £5.89 (here)
favourite shampoo and conditioner ever???
yeah, i would go so far as to say that. over the last five or so months i have not been a fan of my hair. like at all...until i discovered these at the beginning of the month. in the past i have not been too hot on the John Frieda ranges but these two have won me over.
the shampoo cleans the perfect amount. it doesn't dry out my hair or make it too greasy. my hair stays clean for about 2 days after washing with this and i do think it has really helped keep my hair looking sun-kissed after italy.
the conditioner is also fab; it moisturises and conditions, but not too much. i have a lot of fine hair on my head and some conditioners have the tendency to weigh my hair down and grease it up quickly. i have noticed that when drying and styling my hair after using this it makes it much easier. and come on, who doesn't like easy in their routine??
these two are a winning combo. if you are blonde that is!!
most of all they are a bargain, considering i used to spend upward of £15 for just a shampoo!!

so those are my favourite products that i have been loving this month...i hope this has been useful??
happy thursday :)

a stormy saturday.

29 August 2012

on saturday it stormed. hard. the heavens opened and summer was snatched away from right under our noses. lost forever to a grey and drizzly sky. that saturday i have never been more happy that i was a loner. 'loner' obviously being the term for me being the only girl in sw london at home by herself, not at the sw4 festival with all my friends.

as i sat there on my comfy DRY sofa, in my snuggly DRY flat, with goblin for cuddles, my toasty teapot providing yummy tea and a gooey terry's chocolate orange to nibble on, i thought if that is what being a 'loner' is these days then i am happy to be a loner forever. i was over the moon that i never got a ticket for sw4 in the end. while my friends were knee deep in mud, getting more and more drunk soaked as the storm raged on, i was snuggly, DRY and warm at home with my favourite things.

so what did this 'loner' do then with all this free time stretched out in front of her?? the possibilities were endless after all; she could write, she could read, she could eat, she could ring some friends that she hadn't spoken to in a while - oh wait, nope, they were mostly at sw4. woops - she could edit some pictures, she could play with goblin, she could do house chores - err no, that is a crap suggestion, scrap that - she could bake delicious cakes, she could then stuff her face with said delicious cakes???

the possibilities? endless.

so in the end she decided to watch Abduction.
you know that film with Taylor-whats-his-name-the-one-in-twilight in it?? yeah that one...
i cannot believe that i decided {a woman of mostly sound mind} chose to do THAT, out of all the possibilities i was 'given'...i chose to watch a  REALLY SHIT film!!!!!!

after about two minutes in to said film, i knew that it was only going to get worse and that the only good thing about the film would be the fact that it had to end at some point. there was a niggly voice in my head screaming at me 'TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF', but there was something stopping me. goblin was snuggled up on top of the controller. and he was snuggled up REAAALLL GOOD.
i didn't have the heart to move him so i just sat there in disbelief, thinking how on earth could a film be THAT bad. i munched through a little most of bens gooey chocolate orange and drank my body weight in tea to try and distract myself from the tv screen. at one point i muted it {by getting up and walking to the tv and pressing an actual button - thank you goblin, again & who knew actual buttons on the tv still existed???} and tried my hand at lip reading.
lesson learnt.
i am just as shit at that as i am at choosing films to watch.

as the film ended i was angry at myself for sticking it out. but what other option did i have? i stood at the window and watched the storm carry on. at this point i notice goblin has awoken from his slumber and is milling around my feet looking for cuddles. over my shoulder he goes and i am left thinking about how i can go back in time and prevent goblin from sitting on the controller.
after my unsuccessful afternoon i decided that i would get up, have a shower {hair wash was much needed - ew, sorry for the over share} and go meet ben at london bridge for a cheeky drink.
i was and still am surprised my jeans fitted me after i comfort ate my way through that film. what i didn't mention earlier was the box of maltesers and packet of biscuits i ate alongside the chocolate orange.
little miss piggy over here.
bizarrely i actually felt quite confident with how i looked as i left the flat; nice skinny jeans, standard tank, new necklace, fitted blazer and freshly washed hair.

that was until i noticed that whilst walking to the tube my top had dropped down a good two inches and i was happily revealing my nice lacy bra to the whole of balham. i did think i was receiving an awful lot of smiles.

never a good look, unless you are a slut.
oh that reminds me..LOL at this picture.

that comes courtesy of my sis-wa's tumblr. you can find her here if you like.
she sure is funny.
rolling past the awkward moment at the tube, we had a nice evening in the end.
sunday morning ben's mum, caroline, picked us up and we all drove down to colchester. we arrived in the afternoon and spent some quality time chilling out and catching up with mum {with a little working thrown in}.
monday morning we popped out for breakfast at the local cafe/shop/treasure chest.
aren't they cute photos?
yeah, right up until the point that tash grabbed my boob. i mean honestly, i would NEVER do that. it is SO inappropriate!
look at my face. am i enjoying this?
not so much here. thinking back, this was just after she squeezed my boob quite hard.
once again, super appropriate..
what my boobs are not big enough for you tash??? got to go grab mum's now???
pfft. i love how mums face stays the same throughout, completely unawares...
on our way home we did a spot of shopping at bluewater and i got to buy myself a few treats with my birthday money. zara jeans, urban outfitters scarf, notepad, river island skirt and a few superdrug treats. a good shopping trip for little old me. and a good old weekend too!
oh and tash?? isn't this picture a treat?
yes, i did tell you i wouldn't put it on here. yes, i lied. i had my fingers crossed. soz.

italy - part four...

28 August 2012

here it is...the last instalment of my italy pictures, drum roll please...

we spent the last day of our holiday in bologna. dad and wendy dropped us off at our gorgeous hotel (Porta San Mamolo) and we said our goodbyes. it was weird to spend time away from them after spending a solid week drinking with them but it sure was nice to have some alone time with ben.

we unpacked, faffed, changed and headed out to explore bologna.

that one is for my dad.

as you can see from my amazeballs distinctly average photos, bologna is a totally beautiful city. everything screams gorgeous and i could live there in a heartbeat.

after our day strolling around, soaking up the italian culture we headed back to the hotel to get all dressed up and grab a restaurant recommendation.

our hotel was about a 7 minute walk into the centre of bologna and you know what that means...7 minutes of photo opportunities!

we were super excited about the restaurant choice (it was gorgeous) and even more excited about the wine - can you tell??

excited about the pizza? oh yes!

it was at this point that in the evening that the wine we had glugged was making us a little silly.
i considered editing these silly ones out, and then realised that that would be ridiculous.

hmmm... not my finest moment!!

after the drunken silliness we made our way to the main square and spent an hour or so just sitting under the stars and listening to the sounds of the city.
we all know what happens when you drink wine right???
yeah..this...

i spent the rest of the day being a moany bitch. no change there then!!
just looking at these pictures makes me wish i wasn't losing my tan so quickly..

italy - part three...

25 August 2012

so it seems that we liked italy... on the fourth day we took a trip to a nearby lake. the weather was beautiful, the lake was stunning, the ice cream was to die for and the town was picturesque..
